I FINALLY finished it.

Les Amis de l'ABC from Victor Hugo's classic novel Les Misérables, celebrating at Christmastime in true early-1830s fashion. Methinks Grantaire has been at the wine for a while, now.

Wow, this is so gorgeous! Incredibly well captured, and all of the expressions on their faces are fantastic. You are very, very talented :D

This is amazing. I espacially love Jehan and his flute. It's fastinating how all the tiny details explain the viewer who is who.

Poor Louison, she looks so resigned :D I love her little gesture of trying to get Grantaire's hand off her waist, it's one of these subtle little details in this picture that make me love it (plus, the art. Wow. Did you use pencils?). They all look so happy and relaxed in this drawing! I love that Jolllly's the only one who wears a scarf inside (figures, really ;) ), and the domino game, the costumes (and what they say about every character, in various states of (un)dress, the crèche (sorry, I don't remember the English word) on the mantel, the map ("République Française", eh? So it dates back to the Revolution :) )

This is going into my favourite straight away. It's glorious :)

Thank you SO much for such a nice and thoughtful comment! It's always a great start to the day when I see that someone spent time looking at all those little details I included in the picture. Jolllly and his scarf, I know! He *would* do that. Mustn't catch pneumonia! I think even English speakers say "creche," or else "nativity scene." The map! That's something that's actually described in the book, and I was glad I could find it online to try and be as accurate as possible.

I used watercolors -- first I use blue pencil, then ink, then watercolor. If you browse my gallery, you'll see that I used this picture to "photodocument" my art-making process. ;) The "zombies" phase is always the most amusing to me!
